A coding system to indicate the degree of protection

provided by an enclosure against accessing of solid foreign

objects and/or water.

CLASS LUMINAIRES

CLASSE I

Provide protection against electrical shock solely using

the base insulation and the safe connection of all exposed

conductive parts to an earth conductor.

CLASSE II

Provide protection against electrical shock using both the

base insulation and an additional or reinforced insulation.

This kind of products do not feature a connection to a

protective earth conductor.

CLASSE III

Luminaires provide protection against electrical shock by

using Safety Extra Low Voltage (SELV). This kind of products

are not permitted to generate higher voltages than the

Safety Extra Low Voltage.

NORMATIVE NOTES

The directives 89/336/EEC and 73/23/EEC establish the

essential requirements for safety and electromagnetic

compatibility that the electric and electronic equipment

shall comply for freely circulating in the European market.

These requirements must be verified by appropriate tests

and compliance of the material must be indicated by the

CE marking on the product or its packaging. This marking

is mandatory and the producer is directly responsible for

product compliance with the essential requirements of

the abovementioned Directives. The sale, marketing and

purchase of products without the markup, and therefore not

meet the guidelines, shall be punished by law.

SAFETY ZONES

Electric appliances must be wired to the electric circuit in a

minimum distance of 0,60 m from shower cabins, bath tubs,

washbasins and

of 1,20 m from shower heads.
