Fredericia is a family-owned company founded in 1911.
Our history is deeply rooted in the development of
Scandinavian furniture design and production. Several
of our products have become indisputable classics,
and a large portion of our collection has been in
continuous production for decades.
At Fredericia, we have always moved forward. We have
been developing new products throughout our history,
spanning over 100 years. As a result, not only do we
have an impressive design archive, we also have a
profound knowledge and understanding of furniture
design, which has been passed on from generation to
generation. Insights and attitudes about design which
are continuously being shaped by ongoing develop-
ments in production, culture and daily life.
We have a proud spirit that can be traced back to
our first workshop – a workshop founded on traditional
craftsmanship and modern industrial production.
The company was initially established as Fredericia
Stolefabrik (Fredericia Chair Factory). From the
very start, Fredericia became known for extremely
high-quality furniture in various traditional styles.
In 1955, visionary businessman Andreas Graversen
integrated Fredericia’s heritage of high-quality furniture
with modernist ideals in a close, well-known collab-
oration with Børge Mogensen. Mogensen’s intuitive
understanding of materials and strong sense of propor-
tions led to a range of iconic pieces celebrated to this
day - by collectors, museums, architects and designers
around the world.
Ever since the untimely death of Mogensen in 1972,
Fredericia has continuously evolved by staying in tune
with the times. Throughout the years, the Graversen
family has expanded Fredericia’s circle of designers –
who each contribute to the renewal and reinterpretation
the Fredericia design ethos in new context.
Inspired by the creative power of long-lasting
relationships, such as our close collaboration with
Mogensen, Fredericia continues to see designer
collaborations as partnerships based on a deep mutual
trust - forming a creative culture characterised by
the integrity of design, artistic expression, material
expertise and industry knowledge. Always in an effort
to create sustainable furniture that encourages human
wellbeing wherever people live, work and relax.
