Mogens and Flemming Lassen designed using all of

their senses. ‘It’s all about the feeling’ was a mantra they

could agree on, yet their final works often turned out very

differently. Mogens Lassen ended up breaking the code

for the good feeling in an almost mathematical formula.

The Kubus candleholder is without comparison: not only is it by Lassen’s most sold product

but it is also the most sold candleholder in Denmark. Mogens Lassen, its designer, created

the slim, cubic steel frame in his search for a harmony that would challenge the material

but satisfy the senses. When you look more closely at this design icon, you detect the

use of a mathematical formula that is the secret behind the composition of Kubus and its

consecutive products. The Kubus candleholder with only one candle is 7 cm high and has

a plan diagonal of 10 cm. Sideways, the candleholder creates a line of 10 cm and the

plan diagonal from top to bottom is 14 cm. This pattern repeats in the Kubus candleholder

for four candles. Here the length of the side is 14 cm.
