With Patera I wanted to create a modern chandelier with a vibrant and beautiful light.
A fixture which unites even large rooms and makes the space comfortable and human;
discrete and self-conscious, modest and exclusive at the same time. The basic shape is
peaceful and classic. The structure, living and enticing.
From a distance, the light has the same shape as the source of all light and life; the sun
– a sphere. If you move closer, the sphere comes to life and never looks the same, no
matter which angle you view it from. The Fibonacci structure offsets the visual focal
point of the fixture from its centre, encouraging the beholder to walk around the light
and explore a pattern which is simultaneously mathematical, natural and poetic.
The fixture's complex geometry has only been possible thanks to 3D programs and
countless physical models. We worked on refining light and shadow – after numerous
iterations the light ended as a combination of direct and indirect light – and on reducing
the production process, as otherwise the cost would have been prohibitive.
