Wood has a warm radiance and an intuitive way of
adding a sense of well-being to interiors. It’s a remark-
able, natural material used for furniture since the first
chairs ever recorded in history, in Egypt and China.
In many ways, wooden furniture provides a truly
long-lasting perspective of use. For example, a raw
hardwood table can be sanded down and, to a great
extent, renewed and repaired. However, owners of
wooden furniture share the responsibility of maintaining
their furniture to fulfil a chair’s full life potential.
Traceability and replanting
For more than a decade, it has been our policy at
Fredericia to work with responsibly-managed forests.
Raw hardwoods forested from sources where no more
trees are felled than the forest can reproduce naturally.
The FSC
®
Forest Management certification verifies that
a forest is being managed in an environmentally-
responsible manner. The criteria for certification
extends from procedures that preserve biodiversity to
making sure that practices benefit the lives of workers
and the local community. The FSC
®
standard is being
gradually applied on a product level to our entire range
of furniture crafted with wood. This makes it easier for
professionals to specify responsibly-produced products
with documentation. Fredericia is FSC
®
certified under
the license number FSC
®
151292.
Wood is a vital part of the world’s ecological circuit
Our wood comes from forests, where oak trees are
cultivated for a slow growth, mixed with other tree
species which lead to a tight, resilient grain.
We believe it is our duty to create only high quality,
durable furniture out of respect for the 150 years that
it typically takes to grow a single oak tree suitable for
furniture production.
