become the

inspiration for

extraordinary rugs

EN Santander conjures an entirely different picture:

deep canyons and deserts rub up against lush moun-

tains, and this lends inspiration to the »cabuya« rugs

that are made here.

Working by hand and using three different techni-

ques, two involving knotting and one involving great

big knitting needles, the skilled craftsmen create rugs

with structures as interesting as the countyside itself.

The Fique fibres come from agave-like plants,

brushed over nails, the fibres soaked and washed

for hours before being hung out in the sun for days

to dry.

DE In Santander bietet sich dem Besucher ein ganz

anderes Bild: Üppig bewachsenes Bergland durchzo-

gen von tiefen Canyons und Wüsten liefert die Inspira-

tion für unsere hier hergestellten »cabuya« Teppiche.

Aus zwei Knüpfmustern und einem mit übergroßen

Stricknadeln erzeugten Strickmuster entsteht durch drei

verschiedene Techniken eine von Meisterhand gefer-

tigte Teppichstruktur, in der sich die reizvolle Land-

schaft widerspiegelt.

Die von einer Agavenart stammenden „Fique“-Fasern

werden über Nägel gebürstet, mehrere Stunden ein-

geweicht, gewaschen und anschließend einige Tage

in der Sonne zum Trocknen aufgehängt.
