CABUYA

Three different structures,

Cabuya is the Spanish word for Fique, the material

from which these rugs are woven by hand. It is taken

from an agave-like plant in a painstaking process.

After days of drying in the sunshine the fibres are wo-

ven using three traditional techniques and this gives

these rugs their distinctive structural quality reminis-

cent of the varied landscapes Santander the region

of which they come.

Der Begriff Cabuya bezeichnet im Spanischen das

Naturmaterial Fique, das in langwieriger Handarbeit

aus einer Agave-artigen Pflanze mit gleichem Namen

gewonnen wird. Nach einem zweitägigen Trock-

nungsprozess in der Sonne werden die gebürsteten

Fasern verknüpft, geknotet und gestrickt. So entstehen

drei charakteristische Strukturen, die an die varianten-

reiche Landschaft Santanders erinnern, aus der die

Teppich entstammen.
