Marca Corona ceramics are the outcome of a production process that envisages the use of top quality raw materials, cutting-edge technology and the maximum

attention towards quality

The result is a product with a great aesthetic and technical prestige that can offer you the best performance and durability upon condition that the following

instructions for installation, use, cleaning and maintenance are followed..

Cleaning during installation

In order to obtain the best results in terms of chromatic effect, pick tiles from different boxes.

During installation, the fitter must report any imperfections of the supporting surface (steps or small different in level between adjacent tiles, etc.) and ask for a

written authorisation to proceed work from the end customer or the person in charge of the work site.

As far as is practicable, the end customer must ensure that the micro-climatic and lighting conditions of the work site allow fitters to perform installation in a reliable

manner and to check that materials and installation are as described above.

During the time running between conclusion of installation work and delivery to the end customer, ceramic tiling must be:

— kept clean from cement, sand, mortar and any material that could cause staining and/or mechanical surface abrasion;

— protected against damage and soiling due to the work performed by other workers at the site (painters, electricians, woodworkers, etc.).

For details, precautions and warnings relating to storage, handling, cutting and installation of the 120x240 size, please see our Tutorial 120x240 -

Hithick 20mm. Warnings for laying on raised floors.

Wind and breakage warning

Outdoor pavings installed unglued above the ground level are subject to the action of the wind, with the risk, in some cases, of becoming airborne. The manufacturer

recommends to require the assistance of a qualified professional in order to check the suitability of the installation system above the ground adopted, in accordance

with the local laws and regulations and the conditions of use. Failure to do so could result in serious injury or property damage. A ceramic slab installed on a

raised pedestal system may fracture on impact if a heavy object is dropped onto it from a height, with a risk of injury to anyone standing or walking on such slab.

Failure to adhere to the manufacturer’s instructions for installation of slabs on raised pedestal systems may result in serious injury. For further information and

recommendations concerning the installation systems please refer to Ceramiche Marca Corona website or to the 20mm catalogue “HiThick”.

Instructions for project engineers and customers

If the application of the 20 mm slabs foresees the ceramic product used in structural installations, the project engineer and/or customer must carefully assess the

project requirements with regard to the technical specifications of the slabs. To prevent the risk of damage or injury, the manufacturer recommends:

— With regard to a raised floor installation a ceramic slab may fracture on impact if a heavy object falls on it from any significant height. Therefore the manufacturer

recommends to check the specific intended use before starting the installation and to follow table for raised installation provided below. In certain conditions,

reinforcing must be applied on the back of the slabs (Fiber-Mesh Plus) supplied and applied by the manufacturer;

— With reference to any dry installation system of flooring above the ground level, the manufacturer recommends to comply with local regulations and conditions of

use with regard to wind-load, loadbearing, seismic events, etc.

Failure to comply with these recommendations may lead to improper use of the product and could cause serious damage or injury.

Important notice:

Before installation

Being a professional operator, the tile fitter, who first “sees” and “handles” the

tiles, must:

• report to the purchaser and project engineer any visible defects (see table

below) on the ceramic material;

Description

Tiles with dimensions (width/length) that are different from those of tiles

belonging to the same lot (Caliber), and with deviations above the tolerance

ranges indicated in the technical data sheet.

Concave or convex tiles (corner curving), with corners curving up or down

(warpage) and with deviations above the tolerance ranges indicated in the

technical data sheet.

Tiles with sides that are not straight and that do not form a square (“trapezoid

effect”), with deviations above the tolerance ranges indicated in the technical

data sheet.

Tiles with a different thickness with respect to the other tiles in the same box,

with deviations above the tolerance ranges indicated in the technical data sheet.

Tiles with cracks that are parallel to or at a right angle with the edges, or surface

cracks resulting in immediate detachment of chips after tapping.

Tiles in boxes, which feature broken corners and/or edges.

Tiles with holes, pinholes, craters, bumps, contaminated bodies and tile bottom

face appearing on the top face.

Tiles with screen-printing or glazing defects, drips, discontinuous decoration

Tiles with tones that differ in a substantial manner from the reference and/or

sample tile supplied to the customer.

Tiles within the same lot with differences in tone that do not comply with the

V-shade shown in the catalogue.

Tiles with slightly discontinuous surfaces, abrasions, scratched and/or opaque

edges, semi-circular scratching on the surface.

— After installation, Ceramiche Marca Corona will accept no complaints relating to visible defects.

— Follow a tiling pattern based on a specific installation technique (closed, minimal or open joint, parallel or diagonal installation, continuous or staggered joints, etc.);

before proceeding with installation, the fitter is recommended to show the end customer an example of how the tiles will be installed (by placing them in accordance

to the installation pattern “dry” and without using grout) and to ask for an approval, preferably written.

Light differences in tone are a typical characteristic of some ceramic products.

Ceramiche Marca Corona recommends installation with slabs offset by

1

/ at the most and a grouting joint of at least 2.0 mm for single sizes and 2.0/3.0 mm for

3

combined sizes.

— For outdoor installation, tiles must be installed with an open joint (at least 3.0 mm).

— Make sure that the supporting surface is perfectly cured, flat and thoroughly clean.

— We recommend the wet cutting or the score and snap method during the installation process. Do not dry cut using power tools during the installation process.

Improper installation techniques could expose installer to harmful silica dust.
