Mahmood Saeed

Plaza Project" is one

of the latest initiatives

of Sheikh Mahmood Saeed to be

launched by some of the most dynamic

and enterprising businessmen of

Saudi Arabia: an immense shopping

complex, including a cafeteria,

restaurant, roof garden and car park.

The whole project covers a surface

area of 23,000 sqm /253,000 sqft.

The entire building is charachterised

by the variously coloured marble,

alabaster and gold mosaics which

cover the interior. The exterior is

covered with cosmatesque polychrome

white, black and grey marble mosaic

and gold tessere, laid on a surface

of Murano smalto mosaic in a shade

of azure blue. For this reason the

"Mahmood Saeed Plaza" (planned by

Sicis with Delfino) could be called

"The Mosaic House". It is astonishing

for its sheer scale and for the speed

with which its mosaics have been

accomplished: almost 80 million

tesserae assembled in accurate

compositions in just four months and

the masterful

combination of artistic

and industrial mosaics

allows a supplier's

price equal to that of

an average - high

quality flooring of

normal marble slabs.
