“I worked with Gabriele Salvatori on a surface

treatment for marble, to increase and extend

the rough cut of pieces of stone. What we got

was a series of stones cut like pieces of wood,

transforming the precise, mechanical cut into a

rough cut, creating an “engraved” effect on the

surface of the marble. We revolutionized the

technological element, turning it into a hand-

crafted process, and the result was an even

surface, which might be (for example) laid

tongue and groove, like parquet” — Piero Lissoni

“Ho collaborato con Gabriele Salvatori alla

realizzazione di un trattamento superficiale del

marmo volto ad incrementare ed esaltare il taglio

grezzo della pietra. Il risultato è stato sorprendente:

trasformando il taglio meccanico e preciso in un

taglio grezzo, abbiamo ottenuto una serie di pietre

dal taglio simile a quello che si ottiene con il legno

creando sulla superficie del marmo un inedito effetto

“intagliato”. Abbiamo rivoluzionato l’elemento

tecnologico trasformandolo in un processo artigianale

per realizzare una superficie uniforme che potrebbe,

ad esempio, essere posata mediante il sistema a

incastro, come avviene per il parquet”
