VIGGO BOESEN
Despite his quiet presence in the industry, Viggo Boese
n
(1907-1985) contributed greatly to Denmark’s signature
design aesthetic in the 1930s. His original ideas, organic
shapes and expressive design language were precursors
to Denmark’s stance on modernism in the decades tha
t
followed, reflecting Scandinavian ‘Funkis’ style, a Nordic
take on Art Deco. In contrast to mass-produced materials
and the more minimal and restrained approach of
the Bauhaus school of thought, Boesen brought a soft
,
warm and almost naive aspect to design, usherin
g
in new forms of upholstered furniture.
