BARBOY STORAGE (1963)
Verner Panton
Barboy.
Barboy is a mobile storage unit made from moulded wood and equipped with
castors for mobility. It is comprised of four cylindrical elements that swing out to
provide full 360 degree access to three differently sized storage compartments +
a convenient table top.
Verner Panton designed the Barboy in 1963 after moving from Denmark to
France and then Switzerland. During this period, Panton was particularly
interested in designing furniture that allowed greater flexibility in interior design,
and he often mounted his designs on wheels.
The design brilliantly combine sensual shapes with mobility and practicality – making
it not only the perfect storage unit for bottles, glasses and other cocktail essentials,
but also a functional chest of drawers for the bedroom, hallway or of
fice.
